What Is Second Life?
Second Life is a free virtual world where millions of people from around the globe meet to socialize, create, work, and — as in our case — worship. You control your own character (called an “avatar”), walk through 3D landscapes, attend events, and talk with real people from all over the planet. Think of it as an online place you can actually stand inside.
River of Life Church lives in Second Life. Our “campus” is a virtual building where we gather every Sunday for worship, fellowship, and ministry.
Your First Steps

Create your free account
Visit secondlife.com and click “Create Free Account”. You'll need an email address, a name (real or preferred), and a password. That's it — no credit card.

Download the Second Life Viewer
The Viewer is the free app that shows you the world. Get it from the official site: secondlife.com/viewer (Windows, Mac, and Linux).

Install and launch it
Run the installer, then open the Viewer. The first time it starts, you'll be invited to design your avatar — clothing, hair, colors, all up to you. There's no wrong way to do it!

Log in and look around
Enter your account credentials to enter the world. Take your time — walk around, try the chat box, explore. It's a lot easier than it looks on the first try.

Find River of Life Church
Use the search bar inside Second Life and type “River of Life” — or simply use our Visit Us page, which teleports you straight to our campus.

When you arrive, look for someone from our team — we keep a lookout for newcomers. Stuck on anything? Reach out on our Discord and we'll help you out.
Tips for First-Timers
- Don't worry about being “good” at it. Nobody expects you to be a power user. We're here to help you navigate.
- Take your time. Explore a bit and get comfortable before your first service.
- Use the in-world help. Second Life has built-in tutorials, and our team is happy to walk you through anything.
- Your privacy matters. You control what you share. We respect that completely.
Common Questions
Is Second Life free?
Yes — creating an account and using the world is completely free. All you need is a computer and an internet connection.
Do I need a powerful computer?
A standard laptop or desktop works fine. A newer graphics card makes things smoother, but it's not required.
Can I use it on my phone?
There are mobile apps for iOS and Android, but the full experience — including our church campus — is best enjoyed on a computer.
Is it safe?
Like any online space, be thoughtful about what personal information you share. Second Life has chat filters and reporting tools, and our community is welcoming and respectful.
